Cloverdale College Ministry is an outreach ministry of the Cloverdale Church of Christ to Harding University.
Welcome! My name is Philip Baird and I serve as the College Minister at Cloverdale. My passion is helping college students fall more deeply in love with Christ, learn the value of His Bride the Church, and recognize that both are essential to navigating young adulthood. COLLEGE MINISTRY GOALS
The goal of the Cloverdale College Ministry is not simply to help students stay involved during their years at Harding. Our goal is to help them develop a lifelong faith that remains strong long after graduation and to prepare them to become faithful, active members of healthy local churches wherever God leads them. While attending a Christian university certainly increases the likelihood that students will remain connected to Christ and His church, it is no guarantee. We have seen students drift from the church—and eventually from their faith—both during their college years and after graduation. Because of this, we seek to strengthen students in the areas where they are most vulnerable by equipping them with lifelong habits of discipleship, a deeper understanding of God's Word, meaningful Christian relationships, and a lasting commitment to the local church.
We often summarize this mission by saying
that we want to help students transition from a
student mindset to a member mindset.
Many students arrive having spent years in churches and youth ministries designed primarily to serve and invest in them. While those ministries have been an incredible blessing, they can unintentionally leave students viewing the church primarily through the lens of what they receive rather than how they can contribute. Our desire is to help students embrace their identity as members of the body of Christ—not spectators or consumers, but fellow servants in God's Kingdom. We want them to discover and use their gifts, invest in the lives of others, take ownership of the health of the church, and recognize that ministry is the calling of every Christian, not just ministers and elders. This philosophy shapes everything we do. Rather than simply creating programs for students to attend, we strive to create opportunities for them to worship, serve, teach, lead, disciple, and build meaningful relationships within the church family.
